Integrative Psychotherapy focuses on productive collaboration between the client and the therapist, allowing the experience to be 'bespoke' or 'tailored' for the individual. In the safety of the therapy room, the client is guided and supported in experimenting with different ways of being and of self reflection.
While each Integrative Psychotherapist can employ numerous clinical approaches, including body and breath awareness, Gestalt Therapy and Transactional Analysis, the main focus or therapeutic tool, is the safe and supportive relationship between therapist and client.
Other techniques include ... Relational Psychoanalysis which explores how your past affects your present situation and potentially your future options. The Humanistic Model assists in achievement of your full potential through increased awareness of your past and present behaviours. Existential and Transpersonal Theory supports our search for meaning.
Cognitive Behaviour Therapy is a useful tool to help us manage our thoughts and feelings . Mindfulness helps us "sieze the moment" without the constraints of our past experience or future expectations.
The aim is not to change, but rather to assist the client to reintegrate their whole self, so that unconscious negative patterns are no longer in control and one is less encumbered by habitual repetitive behaviours which have been driven by no longer helpful and untrue beliefs about the self and the environment.
As opposed to directly treating the symptoms, or changing thoughts, this process allows the individual to grow, through increased insight into why certain past behaviours or beliefs have developed as a means of self preservation.
